Hangout
| The Hangout Club
runs every Friday afternoon from 4pm to 6pm during term time and from 2pm to 6pm
during holiday periods and is for young people aged between
10 and 14 years. It operates as a drop-in club and members can come and go throughout the session. There are a range of activities to do including table tennis, pool, table football, playing the drum kit, Wii games, dance mats using the computer and much more. In good weather club members go outside and play football, basketball or rounders or just while away the afternoon fishing in the nearby stream. During the holidays workshops are organised and trips to places such as Alice Holt's Go Ape, Barfields Activity Centre or The Spectrum. Swimming days, hiking days, go karting and quad bike days have featured in the past. Where and what to do is decided by the young people. Members have also been involved in raising money for their club and are continuing to collect Tesco vouchers to exchange for a new set of comfy bean bags to use during the forthcoming Film Club nights. "It's great fun, you can do as much or as little as you like and the youth leaders, are really great," enthused one young member. "It's a great place to just chill and chat with your friends or get involved in all sorts of exciting activities." There have been a few changes this year with Mike Ellis taking over as the leader and Franki his second in command. Mike and Franki are planning to re-launch the club so watch this space for exciting new developments. Already hot food is being served at the club from 4-4.30pm at very competitive prices. Recently some Hangout members helped out with a special event at 40 Degreez' local partner, White Stuff's store. "The theme was superheroes so we all made super hero masks and helped look after the little children while their parents shopped," youth leader Emma explained. |
