Parkour

The Parkour Club has been running for two years but is currently  temporarily closed .  The next sessions will be in August 2012.  If you are passionate about parkour and want to see the club open earlier and are aged between 10 and 16, let us know and if there is enough interest and commitment we could open the club again this Easter. So please keep an eye on the home page for updates.

It's run by professionals from the Basingstoke based company, 3Run who are all qualified gymnasts and apart from teaching Parkour or free running, as it's also called, they make a living as being stunt acts in films.

It costs just £25 a term to join and this helps pay for the hire of the sports hall at the Leisure Centre where the club is held during the winter months because it is too dangerous to free run in wet and slippery conditions outside.  But, come the summer, the instructors take members around the town to test out their skills.  Many of the young people who first came along to this club didn't know anything about Parkour but now they have learnt new skills, improved those skills and are able to jump, balance and land safely from great heights.

"It's great fun.  I was scared at first but now I've learnt how to land safely and practised landing over and over, I feel confident about jumping from one place to another and off high platforms.  I'd recommend this club to everyone." That's what one young member thinks about the Parkour Club.  So, why not come along and give it a go?  The instruction is tailored to each individual's  level of ability so new members would be taught the basics whilst more seasoned members would be practising their intermediate moves.
